Festival Antigonish Summer Theatre is committed to developing an understanding of, and appreciation for, theatre within our community through the production of high-quality professional work. Within this mandate, we create a supportive environment for Nova Scotian artists to hone their talents and present, produce and develop new work. The repertory nature of Festival Antigonish supports a balanced selection of Canadian and international works, providing an opportunity for established and emerging theatre artists to take on new challenges, and allowing the Artistic Director the necessary creative freedom to lead the company with their personal artistic vision. The Festival’s artistic choices emphasize the legitimacy and unique character of Nova Scotian Theatre and provide all age groups in the community with access to a range of theatre.

Festival Antigonish offers contemporary plays that dramatize our cultural moment in order to promote self-reflection on what it means to be Canadian and participate in Canadian theatre today. Our mandate also includes international works, thus enabling our community to engage with exceptional plays from all over the world. Under Artistic Director Andrea Boyd, our mission is fulfilled through four key pillars, namely: supporting female artists, inspiring Canadian artists, building an inclusive community, and creating transformative theatre. We are proud of our successes, and we are committed to growth.

Statement on Inclusion
Inclusion is a priority in every aspect of our work – from the leadership, to the artistic vision, to hiring, to community engagement. Diversity creates a more vibrant and innovative community, and we strive to enrich and transform the lives of our audiences by opening their minds to new cultures and ideas. We welcomediverse cultural, gender, racial, and sexual identities, and encourage artists from all backgrounds to apply.
