Job Postings: RBC Emerging Artistic Associate

This is an 8-month contract, January 13 – August 22

Salary: $765/week

Mandate

The RBC Emerging Artistic Associate will work closely with the Artistic Director and the FAST team to support theatre creation in areas of programming, new play development, artistic outreach, and educational programs. They will support the vision of FAST to Forge creative pathways that strengthen community, inspire compassion, and spark positive change through professional, live performing arts.

The RBC Emerging Artistic Associate will be an artist seeking to bridge the gap from “emerging” to “established” as Director, Playwright, and/or Actor. Priority for this position will be for BIPOC artists. Mentorship and professional development opportunities will be provided, along with production support for theatre creation, and a platform for showcasing their work.

This an individualized program, and will be planned in accordance with the Artistic Associate’s goals, but may include:

Programming

  • Work closely with the Artistic Director on all aspects of season programming, including but not limited to: reading scripts, attending auditions, rehearsals and productions, and meeting with playwrights, directors and other creative team members
  • Learn about the process of play selection, casting, and programming
  • Opportunity to work as director and/or assistant director alongside established artists, based on interest/experience
  • Potential opportunity to act in a professional production alongside established artists, based on interest/experience and appropriate role availability
  • Opportunity to be a performer or director for Theatre Antigonish’s community theatre production, depending on interests and qualifications
  • Take the lead on the programming and planning for the Festival Antigonish Kitchen Party

New Play Creation

  • Research, receive, read, and recommend new scripts
  • Support local playwrights through dramaturgy, readings and meetings
  • Opportunity for candidates who are playwrights to develop their own work

Artistic Outreach and Education

  • Teach or assist in theatre classes, to help nurture the next generation of emerging artists
  • Liaise with local artists and cultural groups to expand community networks and build creative capacity

Company Management

  • Assist incoming artists with accommodations and travel

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of professional theatre experience in directing, acting, and/or new play development.
  • Identifies as emerging artist, and is in early stages of their career
  • Interested in professional development for themselves and for other artists
  • Seeking to expand their audience, grow their portfolio, and widen their artistic networks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven history of effective relationship building
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, an asset
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Willing to reside in Antigonish for the duration of the contract
  • Priority given to BIPOC artists from the Atlantic Provinces
