Festival Antigonish is thrilled to announce Spencer Laing as our 2025 Emerging Artistic Associate / Artistic Director Intern. Spencer will be based in Antigonish and will collaborate with the Festival Antigonish team from January to August 2025.

Thanks to the generous support of the RBC Foundation, this program is designed to empower and champion artists in their journey from “emerging” to “established,” offering dedicated funding and professional resources such as mentorship, talent development, artistic tools, access to new audiences, and opportunities for artistic collaborations.

Spencer will be working closely alongside Artistic Director Andrea Boyd to enrich the theatre community in various aspects, including programming, the development of new plays, artistic outreach, and educational programs. We are excited to witness Spencer’ s contributions and creative energy as they join our team!

Spencer Laing

Emerging Artistic Associate / Artistic Director Intern

Spencer Laing (They/He) is an emerging artist and academic based in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. Raised on the shores of the Bay of Fundy, Spencer completed their Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance at Sheridan College in 2021. Passionate about music and storytelling, they have collaborated with artists across North America and are committed to fostering community arts. Spencer’s love of music was nurtured by the vibrant musical community of their youth, inspiring their dedication to helping others connect with their inner artist. Often accompanied by tea and their cats, Spencer also researches the transformative impact of community theatre.

Spencer is honoured to join the incredible community both on and off the stage at Festival Antigonish. They are looking forward to many adventures and meeting all the wonderful people who make this artistic community thrive. A big thank you to the team at FAST for the opportunity. Happy 2025, and we’ll see you this season.
