These special performances are open to everyone, but the environment is specifically adapted to relax the tradition rules around silence, darkness, and stillness in the audience. They are designed to benefit individuals living with autism or sensory and communication disorders, parents with babes in arms, and anyone who would welcome a more relaxed environment at the theatre. Patrons are allowed to leave their seats and return to them in the middle of the show, the house lights are kept on at a dim setting, loud sound cues are toned down, special effects are explained before the show starts, and all cast and crew members are introduced at the top of the show.
Our Relaxed Performances initiatives is funded by the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture & Heritage under the province’s Culture Innovation Fund. This year, we are proud to also partner with the Special Olympics 2018 National Summer Games being held in Antigonish from July 30 – August 3.
